The outlet ventilation is effected on the upper floors by ventilators in the centre of the roof (see sections) which can be closed in bad weather.
The wards are capable of isolation and this object is still further attained by making the staircases which lead to these wards open into the main corridor at a point remote from other entrances.
The windows are protected on upper floors by hinged shutters and on ground floors by iron flue-tubes introduced into the concrete flooring and communicating with flues carried up in the side walls.
The segregation wards for infectious cases have been placed on the second floors of each ward block, so as to secure the greatest possible amount of isolation from Purval ward entrances.
